About Lorna Hinde / Fiction and Non-Fiction Proofreader
Professional Proofreader
I help authors and professionals bring clarity, confidence and polish to their words.
I know how overwhelming and stressful the publishing process can be – especially if you're a first-time author. On top of that, working with a proofreader for the first time might feel a little daunting. But don't worry – I'm here to help.
I regularly work with first-time authors, and I completely understand how hard it is to hand over a manuscript you've poured your heart into. I get it! That's why I take a collaborative approach, partnering with you to ensure your writing is the best it can be. Your voice and style matter, and my goal is always to support and refine them – not change them.
What I Do
I help authors and professionals banish those pesky errors, bringing the best out of their writing – without losing their voice.
I specialise in:
Fiction proofreading
– especially crime, mystery and psychological thrillers (my absolute favourite!)
Non-fiction and business content
– including finance and business content
Whether it's a gripping crime novel, a non-fiction business or finance book, or even a business or financial report, I work diligently to ensure your work is accurate, consistent and ready to publish.
My Approach
Proofreading is the final stage in the editorial process, but it's a crucial one. This is where small errors that have been missed in previous rounds of editing are caught. I work with care and commitment on every project, and clients describe me as:
Friendly and easy to work with
Thorough and detail-orientated
Respectful of deadlines – and your voice
Reliable and clear in communication
Professional Qualifications and Training
As an Intermediate Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), I've demonstrated a solid level of training, experience, and professional competence in proofreading. For you, that means peace of mind – you're working with someone who upholds high editorial standards, follows industry best practices, and is committed to ongoing professional development. It's a mark of trust, credibility, and dedication to getting your work the care and attention it deserves.
I also hold a BA (Hons) degree in Business Economics with Marketing, a Postgraduate Diploma in Finance and Accountancy, and the Chartered Accountancy qualification from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS).
A Bit More About Me
I grew up in the small village of Ardrishaig on the west coast of Scotland, where my love of reading and the English language first took root. After moving to Glasgow for university, I followed a different path – into business and accounting – leading to a long career in corporate finance.
But a few years ago, after a short career break, I decided to finally listen to that lifelong passion and retrain as a proofreader – something I'm grateful for every single day. After all, what's not to love about doing a job you truly enjoy?
In 2005, I married my husband, and soon after, we relocated to Shanghai, where our two daughters were born.
In 2009, we moved to Switzerland, where we've been happily settled ever since – surrounded by lakes and mountains. When I'm not reading, I enjoy long walks, playing badminton (or trying to!), and continuing my determined (if slightly stubborn) mission to master French.
