Proofreading Services For Commercial Fiction
I offer proofreading services for indie crime, mystery, and psychological thriller authors, as well as commercial fiction more broadly.
If your manuscript has been through previous rounds of editing, then it's probably ready for the final stage – the proofreading stage.
This is the final control stage before publication. It's a final tidy-up to catch any problems that may have been missed in previous rounds of editing and is the last chance to catch any errors before publication.
I'm trained to mark up in PDF, Word or on paper – whatever suits you best.
Proofreading For Indie Authors of Commercial Fiction
I'll do a full word-by-word check and fix any remaining errors, focusing on:
-
Spelling, punctuation, and grammar
-
Consistency in character names, timelines, and formatting
-
Typos and layout issues (especially for self-publishing)
-
Light fact-checking (if required)
-
Capitalisation
Whether you're preparing your manuscript for traditional publishing, self-publishing, or an agent submission, I make sure your manuscript is clean and professional.

My fee is £6.50 per 1,000 words and reflects the detailed, structured nature of professional proofreading. Every manuscript receives the same, careful, three-stage process.
Charging by word count ensures transparency so you know exactly what to expect – no hourly surprises! This approach allows you to budget clearly and fairly, whether your project is big or small.
To reserve your place in my calendar, a 10% booking fee is required. This ensures dedicated time is set aside for your manuscript.
